As a part of my embroidery experimentation, the Sunburst Atoll represents a foray into beadwork as abstraction and embroidery as placemaking. The goal of this work was to attempt to create a design that feels simultaneously abstract and geographic; balancing the line between decoration and documentation while allowing for individual projection.
