A recreation of my last view of Ireland from the aeroplane, hazy as remembered...
This work is my first large-scale oil painting, and recreated my last views of Ireland as I left by plane. Intentionally abstract, the image attempts to capture the imperfect and often hazy memories of home that a migrant might have, where the details are lost and the edges blur. For the Interim Show I displayed it on a white wall with gauzy green fabric draped in front and behind the painting as well as over the ceiling in front of it to create a tent-like effect. The sheer fabric over the painting enhanced the murky abstractedness and the tent-like draping gave the feeling of being in a separate space from the rest of the room, offering a feeling of sanctuary much like that of home.
